I keep a sort of diary and it is the same. This problem is very hard to fix and very dangerous for our health, but this tweet points out the pressure that weight places on a person, and how early it starts.
As if weight loss were not hard enough, fat shaming is a real problem. Self image is so important to overall well-being. From an early age, we are conditioned to think about our weight as a problem.
When does fat-shaming begin, and who starts it? It probably begins in the family, but don’t blame them. It is in almost every bit of our culture, especially for women. They suffer the most. Peers are brutal. Every magazine stares back at the overweight girl. The images are of thin, petite models. That is not real life.
Women are beginning to understand the pressure they are under, and that it is a lie. That does not make living in this world an easier. Like losing weight, it is a lifelong struggle.
Our brains don’t like change. That is a mouthful. The facts seem to indicate that it takes about a month to actually change a habit, or get into one. Like walking, and being more active. Or eating healthy. All of these are changes that take a while to get used to. And the brain will at first resist the change. It’s a defense mechanism!
Perhaps the best advice I have heard is to start slowly, don’t overdo, and gradually build up, but it seems harder to do it the right way! Some people just go all out, but there are dangers associated with dramatic changes. As always, you never begin anything until you tell your doctor what you want to do. That’s important.
Ask you doctor. Start slowly. Make changes. And your mind will follow.
There is not getting around the fact that age is a real predictor for serious problems if you get infected with Covid-19, but you may have also noticed that obesity and diabetes are just as complicating.
In fact, a lot of the interviews on media present a person who is overweight. Those people spend a significant amount of time trying to get well.
Sugar, always the villain to a healthy lifestyle, has also been linked to intense reaction known as a cytokine storm. When the body is faced with an invasion, cytokines flood the body to fight the invasion off. It is not a good reaction, however. The storms cause inflammation and that may cause organ failure.
We need to face facts. Being overweight used to have serious implications for your health. This has been made much worse by the threat of Covid-19.
